Test New Experimental Method
Testing extinguishing system [22]
This will follow the experimental plan proposed as closely as possible, depending on financial limits, in the Edinburgh University fire lab. All that is known about how the experiment will be done is that it will be using a water mist system which was generously donated to the university by Strathclyde fire and rescue service, and the experiment will almost certainly involve some material to burn not worth more than £50 burnt under the smoke extractor hood already in the fire lab. Safety must be taken into consideration and a risk assessment form shall be filled in and all necessary mitigations taken, if the experiment is considered to be unsafe it will not be performed. The purpose of this experiment is to prove that the experimental method works, and to highlight any faults in it that may have been overlooked in the planning, and also to determine how well the experimental method performs compared to what was expected. There is pretty much nothing else which is known about the experiment at this time, and this will be the case until the planning of it is completed. To summarise here is what is known:
- It must be safe to perform.
- It must be economically viable to do.
- It should mimic the method proposed as closely as is possible.
- It will use a water mist extinguishing system and the universities extractor hood in lab conditions.
