Experimental Method
Experimental method [12]
This section shall summarise the research done into the experimental methods used to test new extinguishing systems, as mentioned in the problem statement this shall be one of the main objectives of the thesis. The research done on this will mainly include reading research journals on methods used however if this does not provide enough information professionals in the subject may be contacted in order to request answers needed to proceed with the analysis and experimental parts of the thesis. The ultimate goal of this part of the review is to provide enough background knowledge to form a critical analysis of testing methods used so that a new and improved experimental method can be devised. As such there are several questions which need to be answered in the review.
- What is the goal of these experimental methods, what do they seek to measure, and how are these results analysed?
- What are the technical details of the experimental methods used, for lab and full scale; do they attempt to simulate conditions aboard an aircraft?
- How many methods are there, do they vary significantly and if so why?
- What are the economic costs of these methods, and what materials are needed?
- What are the risks of these experimental methods?
- Are there known faults or shortcoming in these methods?
- Are there any other methods currently in development specifically for new extinguishing systems?
- Is it common for extinguishing system to be altered based on the test results, and if so how the systems are modified?
- Are test results of different extinguishing systems freely available?
